The party returns to the Yawning Portal to rest, when the minions of Shadowthrone attack. Three Deathpack Angels rise from the gathered crowds, assaulting the PCs. From the "well" in the middle of the tavern come out a wave of shadowy figures, rapidly spreading around the common room. Their touch has a weakening effect.
The angels battle the party, but heir main target seems to be Nuada, whom they call "the traitor". Surrounded on all sides, the monk heroically faces his doom, until he's dragged into the dark portal by his opponents. Once Nuada disappears, the remaining angels and their shadows rapidly retreat.
During the whole battle, both the shadows and the angels have all but ignored Tarlyn. It looks like the god of death has chosen his champion.
Not long after the minions of Shadowthrone are gone, the doorway of the Yawning Portal is surrounded by dark energies, as a portal to the next coin opens up. The party does not lose time, and they enter the door.
On the other side, they find themselves in a dark cave. One figure is there waiting for them, a minotaur calling himself Prophet. The creature has a gift for Aleksander, a magical bow to help him in his battle against Shadowthrone. Prophet reveals to be a servant of the Bull of Vengeance, a supernal entity bound to punish unruly gods.
Prophet also sends them on the path to their next quest. Not too far away, hill giants have taken residence in a colossal wooden steading, and are terrorizing the surrounding lands. But their ways are too organized for such big brutes... clearly a hidden power is guiding them to conquest.
The party makes way to the steading, and infiltrate the place. Inside, they find a great number of hill giants, and their dire wolf pets. The PCs decide to remain hidden while they plan how to best get rid of so many giants.
